Chengdu Wuniu Football Club was established in 1996 and changed their name to Chengdu Blades in 2006. They enjoyed strong local support the opening match of the season drawing around 10,000 supporters, the club’s record attendance is 30,000.  

The club has 30 registered players and six coaching staff, including Li Bing, a former national team player seen as one of China’s best ever forwards, winning player of the year award several times," Soccer Investor reported.

Chengdu city has a population of 11.3 million and is the capital of the Sichuan province with a population of around 100 million. As one of the main clubs in its province Chengdu has a 40,000 seat stadium as well as excellent training facilities. Currently the club has no official supporters club and sells no merchandise.

Sheffield United football club (UK) owns a majority 90% stake in the club at a cost of £200,000
