Wednesday 31st May 2006. Chinese National League: re-arranged Round 2 game (1st April).
ANOTHER LATE GOAL Henan Jianye 2 -v- Chengdu Blades 1 A fervent home crowd of around 20,000 saw Henan Jianye go top of the league and remain undefeated after beating the Chengdu Blades 2-1............The Blades Nigerian Striker Goodwin (27 minutes) gave the Blades an half time lead but Henan hit back after the interval with goals from Li Zhaonan and Liu Xiang to take the points. Chengdu where relatively restricted to long forward balls in the second half when after 61st minute they had a man sent off..... In complete contrast to last Saturdays game, when the teams played in near monsoon type weather, this day presented a very different challenge to the players having to endure conditions of blistering heat, and where the game went on to prove just as heated on the pitch, with both teams reduced to ten men after the half time in separate incidents. Henan had more of the early opportunities, but it was the Blades who took their first real chance, when on 27 minutes, Wang Song delivered an inch perfect cross that was gratefully received by Nigerian striker Godwin heading in at the far post. The second half started with both sides pushing hard to take control of the game and on 55 minutes Henan's Li Shaonan dribbled the ball into the penalty box and scored with a cool side footed pass into the net to equalise. The match was becoming more fierce and on 61st minute the Blades went down to 10 men when, after a minor foul Ding Qi picked up his second yellow card and was sent off. Chengdu's well-organised defence was breached for the second when on 71 minutes, a thunderous free kick by Liu Xiang on the edge of the box hit the net. On 80 minutes Henan's Zhao Peng was given his marching orders for a tough challenge, with time running out the home team were pegged back by the Blades who where looking to get something out of a game, Henan's goalkeeper Lu Feng was next in the booked for wasting time, but the home side hung on to take all three points and remain undefeated. Chengdu: Lan Yi, Wang Cun, Tang Hai, Orlando, Ding Qi, Wang Yi, Li Haiqiang, Yao Xia, Xia Qixi, Wang Song, Godwin Henan: Lu Feng, Yao Bing, Zhao Peng, Wu Hao, Wang Yujing, He Bin, Jin Haibo, Li Shaonan, Shen Yanhua, Teronchev, Zhang Miao
